- Step 3 — Add the four scores (out of 8) and apply the first rule that fits: 7–8 with no zeros = fully aligned, keep and use normally; 4–6 or exactly one zero = partially transferable, keep but reframe with the theme overlay; any two zeros = replace for exam practice, keep only for quick look-ups; built around optional topics or a Paper 3 layout = deprecated, quarantine it.
The audit is built for speed, not exhaustive verification. Once you’ve scored and classified a resource, move on. A separate pass against your school’s current dot-point list will catch any remaining coverage gaps.
Triage Pre-2025 Past Papers
Pre-2025 past papers are still worth using—selectively. Nature of Science appears as examinable reasoning built into explanations and questions, not as isolated fact-boxes that can be skipped. And practice questions use official IB command terms that expect linked, structured responses, not generic worksheet prompts.
These checks cut through surface-level claims quickly. The real question isn’t whether a guide says it’s updated—it’s whether using it trains cross-theme thinking, Nature of Science reasoning, and the response style current markschemes actually reward.
